INSTRUCTOR VACANCY:

Instructor, Floral Design – (POOL)

Part-time:  Monday - Friday, 9:04 a.m. - 12:34 p.m. (Total 15 hours weekly)

Fullerton High School

BASIC FUNCTION:    

Train high school students and adults how to design floral arrangements, specialty displays and corsages. Under the supervision and guidance of the ROP and Fullerton High School administrators, plan and implement learning activities that support Fullerton High School’s vocational program.  Students can learn basic workplace skills and the skills needed to operate a small business.

 TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies.

·         Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, aids and equipment

·         Evaluate students’ skills and job readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records.

·         Manage classroom in a manner conducive to learning.

·         Work effectively as part of a team.

·         Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum.

·         Assist students in developing an individualized learning plan to prepare for employment, advanced training, or career advancement.

·         Participate actively in subject matter advisory committee

·         Keep abreast of current practices, technology and training methods.

·         Assist in recruitment and employment of students.

·         Accurately report student attendance in a timely manner.

·         Perform other duties as required.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

a)       Knowledge of floral arrangements, specialty displays and corsages

b)       Knowledge of methods and techniques of effective presentations

c)       Skilled in verbal communications

d)       Knowledge of teaching strategies and learning modalities

e)       Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning

f)         Ability to write lesson plans for individual and group instruction

g)       Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students’ learning styles, abilities, interest, and cultural backgrounds

h)       Ability to follow ROP policy/procedure, including maintaining student and other required records.

i)         Ability to work effectively as a team member

Experience/Training/Education:

High school diploma required, AA or BA degree is desirable.  Must have a minimum of five years recent experience in floral design.  Must possess or be eligible for a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in vocational education in the appropriate subject matter.  College degree in a related field may substitute for some employment experience.

SALARY RANGE:               $34.10 - $43.54 per hour

a)     Knowledge of law enforcement agencies and functions; criminal law process, traffic law, juvenile law; dangerous weapons control; substance abuse issues; gang issues; crime prevention strategies; elements of administration of justice including the three-part law enforcement system, components of the justice/court system, constitutional foundations of law, Bill of Rights, due process and reasonable doubt; probation and parole procedures; organized crime issues; emergency preparedness.  Knowledge of the field of forensics including the history of forensics and its relationship to growing technology; latent print investigations; crime scene evaluations; collection and processing of evidence; courtroom testimony

b)     Knowledge of general employability skills such as effective communication, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem solving, sexual harassment and health and safety issues

c)       Knowledge of methods and techniques of effective presentations

d)       Skilled in written and oral communications

e)       Knowledge of teaching strategies, project-based learning and learning modalities

f)         Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning

SALARY RANGE:              Initial placement on salary schedule will be according to a combination of education and work experience ranging from $27.33 - $38.53 per hour

North Orange County ROP reviews the applications submitted on a timely basis to select an interview group of those candidates who appear to possess the most extensive and relevant experience or abilities for the position.  Not every candidate who meets the minimum qualifications is interviewed.  It is, therefore, important that the application be thorough, detailed and clear.  Current North Orange County ROP employees who are applying for a position should be aware that material from their personnel files will not automatically be included as part of the application packet, and then should, therefore, provide information on past and present employment in the same degree of detail as any other applicant.
