Guidance
Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can
help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and
assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may
assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career
research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to
high school graduation, as determined by the participating district.
The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of
program attendance and active participation.

Take advantage of
career exploration opportunities!
Accounting Occupations—If you earn money, you’ll want
to keep track of it, and accounting shows you easy ways to
do that. You’ll learn how to prepare income statements and
balance sheets. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn
software such as Excel, Word, QuickBooks Pro and Peachtree
Accounting. The class prepares students for entry-level
employment in office settings and advanced training.

Automotive Technology, and Intro to Automotive Technology—If
you are going to drive a car, you’ll want to know everything
taught in the beginning course, such as automotive systems
and basic repairs, tire and oil changes, and what tools fix
what parts. As an advanced student, you’ll learn servicing
procedures, how to identify component parts, diagnose
faults, replace parts, and rebuilding, repair, and
adjustment procedures. The course prepares you for advanced
training and for further technical education.

Construction Occupations—If you love working with
your hands, this might be just the thing for you. In
addition to learning carpentry/construction skills you’ll
also learn all the safety skills you’ll need, and how to use
and care for power and hand tools. You will be prepared for
jobs in carpentry for the construction trades and further
education in building trades programs.

Cosmetology—If you love to do hair and makeup, and
you are a bit of an entrepreneur, cosmetology is a field you
would really enjoy. Attend an orientation, tour cosmetology
schools to choose one, then enroll for 1600 hours of
learning. After you learn the basics you will work on
clients at the school.

Culinary Arts (beginning and advanced)—If you love to
cook or want to learn, this class will give you more than
the basics. You’ll learn garde manger (the art of fruit and
vegetable carving) basic cooking, and some international
cooking. You’ll also learn safety and sanitation, nutrition
basics, and food service operations. The class prepares
students for entry-level jobs and advanced training.
• Culinary kitchen at the Anaheim Union High School District
Office
Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation (Introduction
to)—Students will study theory and gain experience in
the skills needed by crime scene investigators. They will
learn the basics of crime scene evidence collection and
investigation, crime scene photography, and diagramming a
crime scene. You are preparing for college studies in law
enforcement.
• Trident Education Center
Legal and Law Enforcement—Students will learn about
institutions and agencies within the justice system;
criminal law; traffic and juvenile law; judicial
proceedings; substance abuse laws; and emergency
preparedness. You will participate in a ride-along with a
police officer and will take various field trips to legal
institutions.
• Trident Education Center
Masonry—Imagine yourself fifty years from now,
driving past a building and telling your grandkids you built
that building with your own hands. If that would make you
proud, you might want to learn to lay brick, block, and
stone in this masonry class. You will learn to use tools,
lay out projects, read blueprints, and estimate materials.
You’ll learn how to build walls, planters, barbecues, patios
and other projects.

Medical Core—You will learn basic anatomy and
physiology and the medical terminology to describe it.
You’ll also learn some basic skills such as using universal
precautions and safety standards, taking vital signs, body
mechanics, and infection control. You’ll study ethical
standards and socio-economic issues in health care. The
class prepares you for further study in health care
professions.

Retail Career/General Merchandising (paid and unpaid
community learning)—Love retail? Shopping at the mall?
Learn marketing, inventory control, cashiering, stocking,
customer service and more in the classroom and on the job.
Earn credits for hours on the job during the class. This
class prepares you for entry level and above retail jobs and
further education.
• Knott’s Berry Farm Training Center
Theme Park Entertainment/Tourism, Knott’s Berry Farm—If
you are outgoing and love service, Knott’s is a wonderful
place to learn how to work in several different industries,
including retail merchandising, food service and park
attractions. Unpaid on-the-job training is available 10 to
15 hours per week.
