High School Student Guidance

Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to high school graduation, as determined by the participating district. The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of program attendance and active participation.

Explore careers at Savanna High School!  The following ROP classes are for Savanna High School students.  After-school ROP classes may be open to ALL high school students.

Introduction to Automotive Technology—If you are going to drive a car, you’ll want to know everything taught in the beginning course, such as automotive systems and basic repairs,  tire and oil changes, and what tools fix what parts. 

Automotive Technology—As an advanced student, you’ll learn servicing procedures, how to identify component parts, diagnose faults, replace parts, and rebuilding, repair, and adjustment procedures.  The course prepares you for advanced training and for further technical education.

Careers With Children: Preschool Assistant and School Age Child Care Assistant—Want to be a teacher or child psychologist?  You’ll learn how to work with preschoolers to school-aged children in the classroom and in a school setting.  If you are employed in a preschool or after-school program already, you may be able to earn elective credits for your work experience.  Students are preparing for entry-level jobs and advanced training. After-school class is designed for ALL high school students.

Culinary Arts (Introduction and Advanced)—If you love to cook or want to learn, this class will give you more than the basics.  You’ll learn garde manger (the art of fruit and vegetable carving) basic cooking, and some international cooking.  You’ll also learn safety and sanitation, nutrition basics, and food service operations.  The class prepares you for entry-level jobs and advanced training.

Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation (Introduction)—You will learn the basics of crime scene evidence collection and investigation, crime scene photography, and diagramming a crime scene.  You’ll  learn who to interview and what questions to ask.  You’ll sharpen your reasoning skills, observation skills, and knowledge of forensic science detection techniques.  This class prepares you for entry-level employment and college studies in the field

EMT The Emergency Medical Technician class may be available for you to take at Savanna or at another location. After-school class

Legal and Law Enforcement—You will gain an understanding of what substance abuse does to the body and mind; criminal, traffic and juvenile law, judicial proceedings, and emergency preparedness.  The class emphasizes the importance of safety, effective communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills as well as professional development.  You may have the opportunity to participate in field trips to justice institutions and "ride-alongs" with police officers.  The class prepares you for advanced training.

Medical Careers Academy: Exploring Medical Careers

Medical Careers Academy: Medical Careers I—You will identify roles and responsibilities of a wide variety of health care professionals and apply basic entry-level health care to patients in supervised health care settings, including doctors’ offices, clinics and hospitals.  You are preparing for advanced training.

Medical Careers Academy: Medical Careers II-Body Diseases and Disorders—Learn human anatomy and physiology, normal body system functions and disorders of those systems.  You’ll gain a foundation on which your professional knowledge and judgment will be built.  You are preparing for advanced training.

Medical Careers Academy: Nursing Fundamentals—You’ll learn basic care of patients with simple health problems, including body mechanics, how to initiate nursing care, how to take vital signs, advanced medical terminology, ethics and legal procedures related to the nursing profession.  Students are preparing for advanced training, and upon successful completion, may move to Vocational Nurse training.

Medical Careers Academy: Nurse Assistant Long-Term Care

You'll learn about the workplace from experts while earning elective credits and preparing for a great job.  This a great way to start your career today, why delay?
