High School Student Guidance

Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to high school graduation, as determined by the participating district. The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of program attendance and active participation.

Explore career classes at Sunny Hills High School!  The following ROP classes are for Sunny Hills High School students only.

AutoCAD 2010—If you want to be an architect or engineer, this class is for you!  You’ll learn to read blueprints and create multiple view drawings using state-of-the-art CAD software.  This class prepares you for entry-level drafting jobs and advanced education.   You may also earn advanced placement and credits in community college.

Introduction to Automotive Technology—If you are going to drive a car, you’ll want to know everything taught in the beginning course, such as automotive systems and basic repairs,  tire and oil changes, and what tools fix what parts. 

Automotive Technology—As an advanced student, you’ll learn servicing procedures, how to identify component parts, diagnose faults, replace parts, and rebuilding, repair, and adjustment procedures.  The course prepares you for advanced training and for further technical education. 

Introduction to Engineering Design—part of Project Lead the Way, a curriculum designed by engineers for future engineers!  You will design solutions to real-world challenges, including improving existing products and inventing new ones. Using sophisticated three-dimensional modeling software, you will analyze the problems and create design solutions.  Students who successfully complete the one-year class are eligible for one year of UC-approved a-g elective credit.

Principles of Engineering—part of Project Lead the Way, a curriculum designed by engineers for future engineers!  You will explore careers in engineering and technology, including technology systems and manufacturing processes.  The course addresses social and political consequences of technological change. Students who successfully complete the one-year class are eligible for one year of UC-approved a-g elective credit.

Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation (Introduction)—You will learn the basics of crime scene evidence collection and investigation, crime scene photography, and diagramming a crime scene.  You’ll learn who to interview and what questions to ask.  You’ll sharpen your reasoning skills, your observation skills, and your knowledge of forensic science.  This class prepares students for entry-level employment and college studies in the field.

Photography—Are you the photographer in your family?  Learn to shoot creatively, using digital cameras and visual editing software on Apple MacIntosh computers to create professional results.  Successful students moving to higher education are granted UC-approved fine arts credit, and advanced placement and credits at community colleges.
