Guidance
Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can
help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and
assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may
assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career
research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to
high school graduation, as determined by the participating district.
The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of
program attendance and active participation.

Most of the following ROP classes are for
Troy High School Students only.
After-school ROP classes may be open to ALL students.
Art in Animation—If
you’re serious about a career in the commercial
art/animation world, take this class! This 3-D computer
animation, 2-D graphics and animation, traditional media,
and design course includes design, rendering and animation
using Softimage XSI and Maya software. This class will also
be offered after school.
If you
successfully complete this one-year course, you will be
eligible for UC-approved "f" elective credit.
Basic Occupational Training—Students
with developmental/emotional disabilities learn occupational
skills for manufacturing and service jobs. The focus is on
assisting students to learn employment and social
interaction skills, emphasizing safety and personal
hygiene. The goal is to create a smooth transition from
school to work.
CAD:
Architectural Desktop—If
you want to be an architect or engineer, this class is for
you! You’ll learn to read blueprints and create
multiple view drawings using state-of-the-art CAD software.
This class prepares you for entry-level drafting jobs and
advanced education. You may also earn advanced placement and
credits in community college.
Child Development—Want
to be a teacher or child psychologist? You’ll learn the
stages from conception through early adolescence, including
the major theories of development and their application.
Focus is on emotional/psychological, cognitive, and physical
development, and on the influence of heredity and
environmental factors. If you successfully complete
this one-year course with an A or B you will be eligible for UC-approved a-g credit. You are preparing for
entry-level jobs and advanced training.
Computer Graphics and Design—Paint,
inks, brushes and computer software are all tools in the
contemporary artist’s box. You’ll learn graphic software
such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign and print
production preparation. This class gets you ready for
entry-level employment in such positions as layout artist,
graphic artist, desktop publisher and production artist, as
well as for advanced education.
Emergency Medical Responder/Emergency Medical Technician—Whether
you want to be a lifeguard, a firefighter, or a medical
worker in any branch of medicine, this class will give you a
great start. You will learn CPR, emergency first responder
skills to make patient assessments, triage, first aid, and
care at the scene. You are preparing for jobs such as
ambulance attendant or emergency room technician. You’ll
also learn emergency responsibilities and ethical/legal
issues and responsibilities. Clinical training is available
at hospitals and with ambulance companies with the
instructor's approval. If you are 18 years old when you
complete the class, you may apply for Orange County EMT
certification and sit for the EMSA (Emergency Medical
Services Agency) certification exam. After-school class
Introduction to Engineering Design—part
of Project Lead the Way, a curriculum designed by engineers
for future engineers! You will design solutions to
real-world challenges, including improving existing products
and inventing new ones. Using sophisticated
three-dimensional modeling software, you will analyze the
problems and create design solutions. If you successfully
complete this one-year course you will be
eligible for three units of UC-approved a-g credit. You are
preparing for advanced training.
Principles of Engineering—part
of Project Lead the Way, a curriculum designed by engineers
for future engineers! You will explore careers in
engineering and technology, including technology systems and
manufacturing processes. The course addresses social
and political consequences of technological change. Students
who successfully complete the one-year class are eligible
for UC-approved a-g elective credit.
Principles of Teaching and Learning—Learn
principles of effective teaching, curriculum development,
classroom management, school governance, and explore career
opportunities. Successful students will intern in community
schools. If you successfully complete this one-year course
you will be eligible for UC-approved a-g credit. You are
preparing for advanced training. The class is also part of
Project Tomorrow’s science docent program.
